  • Product details
  • High Mast Lighting System with Motorized Raising and Lowering Ring

A raising and lowering high mast lighting system allows the floodlight ring to move between the mast head and ground-level maintenance position. Jieyao manufactures project-specific systems for ports, highway interchanges, logistics yards, airports, parking areas, industrial sites and stadium surroundings.

The complete supply can include the polygonal galvanized mast, lowering light ring, LED floodlights, electric winch, emergency manual drive, wire ropes, pulleys, headframe, mechanical locking system, power cable, control equipment, base plate and anchor-bolt cage. Final configuration is calculated from mast height, ring weight, fixture quantity, fixture EPA, wind criteria and the owner's maintenance procedure.

    How the Lowering System Works

    1. The work area is isolated and weather conditions are checked against the operating procedure.
    2. The mechanical latches are released using the approved sequence.
    3. The winch lowers the ring while guide components control movement and rotation.
    4. Floodlights, drivers, cables and junction boxes are inspected at ground level.
    5. The ring is raised to the mast head and every latch is confirmed fully engaged.
    6. Electrical and mechanical checks are completed before the system returns to service.

Actual operation must follow the supplied manual. Personnel should be trained, the exclusion zone controlled and the equipment inspected at the specified intervals.

Data Required for Winch and Ring Design

    • Quantity, dimensions, weight and EPA of each floodlight
    • Driver, bracket, junction box and cable mass
    • Ring geometry and any CCTV, antenna or lightning accessories
    • Mast height, required travel and operating frequency
    • Electrical supply and emergency manual-operation requirement
    • Design wind criteria, corrosion category and applicable standard
    • Owner's inspection, maintenance and safety specification

    Lighting and Structural Engineering

The number of floodlights should be determined from the required maintained illuminance and uniformity. Jieyao can model the site using project coordinates, mast positions, aiming constraints and luminaire photometric files. The resulting ring arrangement is then coordinated with the structural design.

Wind analysis must include the complete ring, luminaires, brackets, cables and accessories. Pole sections, overlap lengths, plate thickness, base plate and anchor bolts are designed from the approved loading basis. Foundation reactions are provided so the local civil engineer can verify the concrete design with the geotechnical report.

    Inspection and Maintenance Plan

A lowering system reduces routine work at height but still requires planned inspection. The owner should check wire ropes, terminations, pulleys, winch brake, gearbox, electrical cable, limit functions, guides, fasteners, corrosion and latch engagement. Inspection intervals depend on the operating environment, frequency of use and project standard.

    Manufacturing and Documentation

Jieyao supports mast cutting, forming, welding, trial assembly, dimensional inspection and surface-treatment coordination at its Yangzhou production base. The company was formally established in 2017 and has 15 years of lighting-industry experience, a 10,000-square-metre production base and 35 employees.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What mast heights can use a lowering ring?

The arrangement is project-specific and can be designed for common 20–45m high mast systems. Height alone does not determine suitability; ring load, internal space and the complete structural design must be checked.

Can the ring be lowered without electrical power?

An emergency manual operating provision can be included when specified. The required method should be agreed before production.

Does the wire rope carry the ring during normal operation?

A properly designed mechanical latching system supports the ring at the operating position. The exact load path and engagement method are defined by the approved system design.

How many floodlights can be installed?

Quantity depends on the lighting calculation and on ring weight, EPA, wind loading and structural capacity. There is no safe universal number.

What should be sent for a quotation?

Send the site plan, target lighting level, mast height or location constraints, wind criteria, floodlight data, electrical supply, corrosion environment and maintenance requirements.

FAQ,If you have any other questions, please contact us immediately

What is the wind resistance of your high mast poles?

Our structural designs are based on local wind data. Standard designs withstand winds up to 160km/h (45m/s), with reinforced options for hurricane-prone regions.

How do I choose the right LED power for high mast lighting?

It depends on the mounting height and required lux levels. Generally, for a 25-30m pole, high-power LED floodlights ranging from 400W to 1000W are recommended.

What is high mast light, and where is it typically used?

High mast light refers to poles typically 20m (65ft) or taller. It is widely used in airports, seaports, highways, stadiums, and logistics hubs to provide uniform illumination over a vast area.

Why is Q345B steel recommended over Q235 for high masts?

Q345B has higher yield strength, allowing taller, slimmer poles to remain safe while reducing weight and improving wind performance.

Can your fixtures pass high-standard salt spray tests?

Yes. For coastal cities, we provide anti-corrosion powder coating that meets 500-1000 hours of salt spray test requirements.

What Are the Most Common Heights for High Mast Poles?

High mast poles are designed for large-area outdoor lighting, and their height usually depends on the size of the space that needs to be illuminated.

What material is used for the high mast poles?

We use high-strength carbon steel such as Q235B or Q345B, bent into polygonal shapes (usually 12 or 16 sides) and hot-dip galvanized both internally and externally.

Fixed vs Raising/Lowering High Mast Light Systems

Raising & Lowering systems feature an electric winch to lower the light ring to ground level for maintenance. Fixed systems require a bucket truck or ladders for servicing.

How does the lifting system of a high mast light work?

It consists of an electric winch, stainless steel wire ropes, pulleys, and an automatic latching mechanism. Once reaching the top, the ring locks mechanically to relieve tension from the ropes.

Will the light ring fall if the wire rope breaks?

No. Our systems feature an automatic mechanical latching system and safety brakes to ensure the ring stays secure even without rope tension when in the locked position.

Do high mast poles include lightning protection?

Yes. Each pole is equipped with a lightning rod at the top and dedicated grounding bolts to connect to the foundation grounding system.

What type of lenses are used for high mast lighting?

We use professional asymmetrical optical lenses (such as Type IV or Type V) to ensure uniformity over large areas and minimize glare.

What is glare control in high mast lighting?

Through shields and precise light distribution design, we confine excess light to the target area, reducing interference for the surrounding environment and drivers.

How is the foundation of a high mast pole constructed?

A concrete foundation must be poured based on pole height and soil conditions. We provide detailed foundation drawings and anchor bolt cages.

What is the anti-corrosion lifespan of hot-dip galvanizing?

In standard outdoor environments, hot-dip galvanizing provides rust protection for over 25-30 years without requiring additional painting.

Can high mast poles be shipped in sections?

Yes. Due to height limits, poles over 20m are typically split into 2-3 telescopic sections for convenient shipping in 40ft containers.

Do telescopic poles require welding during installation?

No. Sections are joined via overlap (telescopic fit) using gravity or hydraulic force. This mechanical joint is more flexible and fatigue-resistant than welding.

Do you provide Dialux lighting simulations?

Yes. Our professional lighting design team provides free Dialux simulation reports based on your site’s CAD drawings to optimize lighting layouts.

Do you have project references for airports or seaports?

Yes, we have extensive project references in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and South Africa. We can provide photos and technical parameters upon request.

What is the warranty period for high mast lighting?

We typically offer a 10-year warranty on the pole structure and a 5-year warranty on the LED fixtures and lifting systems.

Can high mast poles integrate surveillance systems?

Yes. Our light rings can be customized with brackets to accommodate CCTV cameras or other security sensing devices.

What is the EPA (Effective Projected Area) of a high mast?

EPA refers to the Effective Projected Area of the pole and fixtures under wind pressure. It is a critical parameter for calculating structural safety.

Can high mast lights be solar-powered?

Technically yes, but due to high power consumption, very large solar arrays and battery banks are required. We typically recommend grid-tied or hybrid systems.

How do you prevent the internal wire ropes from rusting?

We use high-quality stainless steel or plastic-coated wire ropes and recommend regular greasing during annual inspections.

Do your LED floodlights support 0-10V or DALI dimming?

Yes. With intelligent control systems, you can remotely adjust brightness and scheduling to maximize energy savings.
