Most high mast poles are manufactured from high-strength structural steel, typically Q235 or Q345 carbon steel. These materials are widely used in outdoor lighting infrastructure because they offer a good balance of strength, durability, and cost efficiency, which is essential for poles that may reach 20–40 meters or even higher.
The pole itself is usually formed from tapered steel sections that are welded and shaped to provide strong structural stability. This tapered design helps the pole withstand heavy loads from the lighting platform, multiple LED flood lights, and strong wind conditions often found in open areas such as ports, highways, and airports.
To ensure long-term outdoor performance, the steel surface is treated with hot-dip galvanizing. In most professional high mast lighting systems, the galvanizing thickness is typically around 80–100 μm, which provides strong corrosion protection and allows the pole to maintain a service life of 20 years or more in outdoor environments.
For projects with higher aesthetic requirements or more demanding environments, an additional powder coating finish can be applied on top of the galvanized surface. This extra layer improves weather resistance while allowing different color options to match urban or architectural lighting designs.
Using high-quality steel and proper surface treatment is critical for the reliability of a high mast lighting pole. Because these structures are installed at significant heights and exposed to wind, rain, and temperature changes, manufacturers usually design them according to international standards such as EN40 or local structural wind load requirements. This ensures the pole can safely support the lighting platform and maintain stable performance throughout long-term outdoor operation.
