
Choosing the right LED power for a high mast lighting system mainly depends on three factors: the height of the pole, the size of the lighting area, and the required illumination level (lux) for the project. In large outdoor spaces, the goal is not simply using higher wattage, but achieving uniform brightness and efficient coverage with the right number of LED flood lights.
In most projects, the LED power is selected based on the height of the high mast pole. As the mounting height increases, stronger lighting output is needed to maintain adequate ground illumination.
Typical configurations used in high mast lighting projects include:
20m high mast pole – usually equipped with 150W to 200W LED flood lights, commonly used for parking areas, plazas, and medium-size yards.
25m high mast pole – often paired with 200W to 300W LED flood lights, suitable for logistics centers, industrial parks, and large parking lots.
30m high mast pole – typically uses 300W to 400W LED flood lights, widely applied in highway interchanges and large public spaces.
35m–40m high mast pole – commonly installed with 400W to 500W LED flood lights, often seen in ports, container terminals, airports, and stadium lighting projects.
Another important consideration is the number of luminaires installed on the lighting platform. A high mast pole may carry 6, 8, 12, 16, or even 20 LED flood lights, depending on the size of the area that needs to be illuminated. Instead of relying on extremely high power per fixture, engineers often prefer multiple medium-power LED floodlights to achieve better light distribution and reduce glare.
Professional lighting design also takes into account beam angle, luminous efficiency (lm/W), mounting angle, and wind load conditions. For large infrastructure projects such as port lighting, airport apron lighting, or highway interchange lighting, lighting simulation software is usually used to calculate the exact configuration before installation.

Most manufacturers can provide lighting layout recommendations or Dialux simulation reports, helping you select the right LED flood light power, quantity, and beam angle for your specific project.
