High mast poles are designed for large-area outdoor lighting, and their height usually depends on the size of the space that needs to be illuminated. In most high mast lighting projects, the pole height typically ranges from 15 meters to 50 meters, with a few standard sizes used more frequently in real projects.
The most common option is the 20m to 30m high mast pole. This height is widely used because it provides a good balance between lighting coverage, installation cost, and structural stability. For example, a 20m high mast light is often installed in large parking areas, logistics yards, and small public squares where moderate lighting coverage is needed. When the project requires wider illumination, such as in industrial parks or highway intersections, a 25m or 30m high mast lighting pole is usually the preferred choice.
For larger infrastructure projects, taller poles are more common. 30m to 40m high mast poles are frequently used in ports, container terminals, and large transportation hubs, where a single pole needs to illuminate a very large working area. In places like airports, stadiums, or large port terminals, the height can reach 40m or even 50m, allowing the lighting system to provide uniform brightness over several thousand square meters.
Selecting the right height is not only about the pole itself. Engineers usually consider several factors, including lighting area, mounting angle of LED flood lights, required illumination level (lux), wind load conditions, and the number of luminaires on the lighting platform. A well-designed high mast lighting system ensures wide coverage while avoiding glare and excessive shadow areas.
In practice, most outdoor lighting projects fall into these commonly used ranges:
15–20m high mast poles – parking areas, plazas, small industrial yards
20–25m high mast poles – logistics centers, industrial parks, medium-size intersections
25–30m high mast poles – highways, large parking areas, transport hubs
30–40m high mast poles – ports, container yards, heavy industrial zones
40–50m high mast poles – airports, stadiums, large infrastructure projects
Because different projects require different lighting performance, experienced high mast light manufacturers usually provide lighting simulation and engineering support before finalizing the pole height. This helps ensure the system delivers stable illumination, efficient energy use, and long-term reliability for large outdoor spaces.
