IP rating (Ingress Protection) is a standard used to show how well a street light is protected against dust and water.
The first digit refers to dust protection. The highest level “6” means the product is fully dust-tight. The second digit refers to water protection, ranging from light water resistance to protection against strong water jets or even temporary immersion.
In simple terms, higher IP ratings mean stronger protection and better performance in harsh outdoor environments.
For example, IP65 is commonly used for normal road lighting and can handle rain and dust. IP66 offers stronger resistance against heavy rain and water pressure. IP67 and IP68 are used in more demanding environments where water exposure is more serious, such as coastal areas or industrial zones. IP69K provides the highest protection level and is designed to withstand high-pressure, high-temperature washing, often used in extreme industrial conditions.
For most street lighting projects, IP65 or IP66 is usually enough. But for ports, highways, factories, or coastal regions, a higher IP rating helps improve durability and reduce long-term maintenance problems. Start Your LED Road Lighting Project Today
